There are two types of Aadhaar cards - one is for adults and the other is for children, it is called the 'Baal Aadhaar'. Parents can also apply for Baal Aadhaar for a newborn.

Aadhaar serves as one of the most important documents in the country and can be used for several purposes. Over the years it has become a significant identification document provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). 

Here's how you can apply for Baal Aadhaar: 

The process to apply for Baal Aadhaar is almost the same as for the adults. Naturally, parents will be applying for their kids' Aadhaar - they will have to fill the application form that is available at the enrollment centre along with supporting documents like Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), Proof of Relationship (PoR) and Date of Birth(DoB) document. 

Facts about the Baal Aadhaar card: 

- Any child below 5 years of age gets a blue-coloured Aadaar card. Once the child is above 5 years, then it becomes invalid. 

- A child's school ID can be used as a photo ID for the Aadhaar enrolment

- A child below the age of 5 years does not have to register their biometric. However, once the child turns 5 years one has to update the Aadhaar data and then again at the age of 15 years. This mandatory biometric update for children is free.

- You can apply for your child's Aadhaar presenting its birth certificate or the discharge slip you received from the hospital.

- The child's Aadhaar data does not include biometric info like fingerprints and Iris scan. Once the child crosses 5, biometrics need to be updated.
