n yet another case, authorities at the Balgram SOS Children Village have been caught trying to hush up an alleged molestation case of a six-year-old girl by a minor boy. The incident came to light when a former student of the orphanage came to know about the incident and alerted the office of the Women and Child Development (WCD) department. The police are investigating the role of orphanage authorities and trying to find out who hid the facts.
This is the second case in the recent past when the role of observation home authorities has come under scanner.
Earlier, Kalyani Anil Gite (7) was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
It was alleged that Gite died due to negligence of orphanage authorities. Police had booked three persons in this regard.
In the recent case, a complaint has been lodged with the Yerawada police station against a 14-year-old boy, who allegedly molested the minor girl, and the authorities of the orphanage.
As per the complaint, the molestation took place in February 2013 and after the the incident, the Balgram authorities shifted the boy to another hostel from where he was sent home.
API Shivaji Bendare of Yerawada police station said, “A former student of the orphanage came to know about the incident and immediately wrote to the WCD department. After their preliminary inquiry, they approached the police and lodged a complaint.” He said that the police have not yet detained the boy as he is not in the observation home.
“A case has been registered against observation home authorities under the the Protection of Children Against Sexaul Offences Act.We will find out who was responsible for this negligence,” Bendare added.
