If you are travelling in a private bus between Pune and Mumbai carrying your laptop, then better keep it with yourself or it may be stolen during the journey. Some techies traveling on this route have already been relieved of this important electronic device especially in private buses. Private bus operators are now urging travellers not to leave their baggage unattended.

With many professionals commuting between Pune and Mumbai on weekends carrying laptop along with their luggage, thieves are targeting those that travel alone.

According to tour operators, some travellers keep their laptops on the luggage rack just like any other belongings. With many passengers falling asleep due to fatigue during the journey, thieves lift laptop bags when the bus halts at stoppage points.

Victims have also filed cases with police stations. The recent rise in such thefts was last witnessed in 2008 when 10 such cases were reported.

Ravi Nadkarni, one of the commuters who often travel between Pune and Mumbai said, “ These private bus operators take passengers from any point and drop them at any point. It gives thieves the opportunity to steal laptops and get away with the stolen luggage. The bus operators should halt buses at designated spots only.”

Pune district luxury bus association president Balasaheb Khedkar said, “Our staff cannot keep an eye on each and every passenger and luggage. We are now planning to put stickers in buses urging passengers to not leave their luggage unattended.”
