'Dhag', 'Bhartiya' rule at first Prabhat awards

Dr Shriram Lagoo feted with lifetime achievement award.

Dhag ruled at the first Prabhat Puraskar award with five major awards, including best film, story and screenplay, in its kitty at the first Prabhat Puraskar, organised by the Prabhat Film Company, held in the city on Saturday.

The day marks the 84th anniversary of the inception of the Prabhat film company in 1929. The first edition of these awards began with the felicitation of some of Prabhat’s renowned child artists.

The likes of Vasanti Patel, Baby Shakuntala, Yashwant Damle and Pandit Damle were felicitated for their contribution to Prabhat’s films. The ceremony then handed special award to renowned film academicians like PK Nair, Isak Mujawar, Shashikant Kenikar and Shirish Pai. Isak Mujawar shared an anecdote as he received the award and said, “Kusumagraj once told me that Prabhat’s films are not just entertainment, but lessons in value education. He said films are forgotten but values can never be forgotten.”

The Prabhat Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar for a lifetime achievement in cinema was awarded to veteran actor Dr Shriram Lagoo.

The technical awards followed and were swept by Sumitra Bhave’s Samhita, which bagged the awards for best sound recording, best make up and best costume.
