The administration has sought an extension of the deadline for registration of voters for the graduates constituency and the teachers’ constituency, citing Diwali holidays. The fresh drive has resulted in the number of graduate voters crossing 4 lakh in Pune constituency.
Additional commissioner and voters’ registration officer at the divisional commissioner’s office Tukaram Pawar informed that the fresh registration for the graduate constituency has added 41,000 new voters to the existing list. The list had around 3.80 lakh voters registered. The fresh registrations have taken the total number of voters to over 4.20 lakh.
Pawar informed that for registration to the teachers constituency the teachers were supposed to apply along with the proof of being in service for six years. He said that there is an existing list of teachers constituency of 91,000 voters and ongoing examinations followed by vacation would make new registrations difficult.
A proposal to extend the date of registration, which is coming to an end on October 30, has been sent to the state election commission, Pawar said. The voters’ list would be published on January 10, 2014, for the graduates and teachers constituency, he added.
