The work on Indrayani river conservation and development will soon be initiated under the River Conservation and Development (RCD) project to save the river from pollution.

The issue was discussed at a meeting chaired by Shiv Sena MP Shivajirao Ahalrao Patil in Bhosari. The meet was attended by corporators of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), representatives of Alandi Municipal Council (AMC) and local corporators.

The executive engineer of PCMC’s environment cell, Satish Kulkarni, Sena corporator Sulbha Ubale, AMC chief executive officer Vinayak Aundhkar were also present at the meeting.Patil said, “We want that Indrayani river, which is one of the most polluted rivers, to be included in the RCD project. The conservation and development work of the river has been given to the same agency that worked for Mula and Mutha. Alandi is a temple town where lakhs of devotees come every year. It is a ‘thirthashkestra’, so the conservation programme of Indrayani river should be implemented here as soon as possible.”

Patil added that the project report will be sent to the state and central ministry very soon. While implementing the conservation programme, planning for the next 40 years will also be done.According to PCMC officials, the river conservation programme includes a sewage treatment plant (STP), a modern facility to perform rituals, ghat section beautification, public toilets, parking facility, tree plantation, etc.
