A vigilant Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started imposing fines on people found misusing drinking water for other purposes. In the last seven days, the civic body has collected fine worth Rs16,600 from offenders in 44 cases.

To implement the ban, the civic administration has conducted surprise raids across the city.  As per a press release issued by the civic body, in Aundh, the civic body took action against 8 instances of misuse of water and fine of Rs2,300 was collected. Similar action by the Ghole Road ward office resulted in action in 10 cases and fines worth Rs6,200 being collected.

While conducting action in the Kothrud ward office area, the civic officials came across misuse of water in 8 places and fines of Rs800 were imposed. Similar actions were carried out in other ward offices.

The civic body has undertaken a major drive to educate citizens against misuse of water. During the days of water scarcity, the civic body is using water from the well for watering plants and trees at Peshwe Park.
