Even as local residents of Dias Plot in Gultekdi alleged that police failure to take action against an illegal liquor den in the area resulted in miscreants damaging 15 autorickshaws on Saturday, the Swargate police claimed that they had taken action against one Hira alias Aziz Shaikh, who used to run the liquor den in the area.

Baswraj Kanne, a local resident, said, “Most of the local residents create nuisance after consuming liquor at the den. They sit in our autos and create a scene. Interestingly, the local police do not pay enough attention to this nuisance.”

Subhash Chavan, a resident of Meenatai Thackeray Colony, who’s Tempo windshield was damaged by the miscreants, said, “I am the sole breadwinner of my family. The miscreants have damaged my Tempo for no reason at all. Who is going to pay for this damage? We no more feel safe in the area. The police should take stringent action against these hooligans.”

While speaking to DNA, senior police inspector of Swargate police station, Ram Pathare, said, “We had arrested one Hira alias Aziz Shaikh, who used to run the liquor den in the area, last week. We had also registered a case against him. In the past, he was externed from the city. We are on the lookout for him and are thinking of externing him from the city again.”

Pathare added, “We have taken action against the people who are running liquor dens in the area. We have also instructed our officers to take stringent action against them.”
