They are all activists of the youth wing of a trading community and involved in social work of one or the other type. This year they have decided to adopt four blind students from the funds remaining after organising a limited overs cricket tournament within the Maheshwari community.

Cricket brings the community together and ket also can bury the hatchets between India and Pakistan.

Pune Zilla Maheshwari Pragatai Mandal district youth wing is bringing the Maheshwari community together by organising for Pune Maheshwari Premier League (PMPL) cricket matches this year, said Jayesh Kasat, who is the vice-president of the Pune district youth committee of the Pune Zilla Maheshwari Pragati Mandal.

Kasat said that mandal president Deepak Kasat, youth wing secretary Hanuman Kalya and most of the office bearers participate in social work through different organizations. He said that the organizing committee is of the view that some part of the funds should be spent for social work. Prem Bhavan Pradnya Chakshu Vidyalaya executive president Pravin Rathi is running an organization for blind students. They would adopt four visually challenged students from this organization and provide for all expenditure for these four students for one year.

Kasat said that the euphoria is so much within the community that women from the Maheshwari community come out of the houses to watch the matches. There are eight teams and every match is of 12 overs. The final is played for 12 overs and this year the PMPL would be inaugurated on Tuesday by industrialist Poonamchandji Dhoot at Shinde High School ground in Sahakarnagar.
