As many as 5,554 graduate and postgraduate candidates have lined up for taking up jobs of conductors with the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).
Moreover, a considerable number of the postgraduate candidates have an additional degree or diploma.
Conflict between commuters and conductors over change, seats or other reasons is common. It is interesting to see how well-educated conductors deal with irate commuters on the only public transport body in the city.
According to the PMPML, there are 1,659 jobs of conductors, but over 33,000 candidates have applied for the same.
Though the minimum educational qualification for the post of conductor is Std X, over half of the candidates are well-educated.
After shortlisting the applications as per the educational qualification, the PMPML has sent interview calls to the 5,554 candidates who hold graduate and postgraduate degrees.
The interviews will be conducted between September 4 and 18 at the PMPML headquarters at Swargate.
Spokesperson of PMPML, DA Pardeshi told DNA, “First those who hold maximum educational qualification will be called for interview and then the candidates who have passed standard XII.”
“As many as 1,470 women candidates having good educational background have also applied for the post of conductor,” he said.
Interestingly, the PMPML managed to fill up the posts of 680 drivers recently while it needs around 1,200.
