A fresh survey by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) property tax department revealed that there are almost 554 illegal mobile towers in the twin-town. Acting on this survey report and citizen’s complaints, the civic chief Dr Shrikar Pardeshi has ordered to sort out the issue ward-wise.
The civic chief has ordered the law department to take action against the illegal mobile towers, set up on authorised houses, as per the law.
Further, sources revealed that a notice will be issued giving a month’s time to the owners of the mobile towers, before taking any action against them.
Earlier, a local activist had questioned whether PCMC had formulated any separate policy to act against the illegal mobile tower menace in the area. Moreover, he also wanted to know the exact number of illegal towers in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The civic administration failed to provide him the exact figures, following which Pardeshi had called for an urgent meeting.
Unlike PCMC, the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) survey showed that there were 55 mobile towers on the terraces of apartment buildings or self-occupied buildings and they were functioning without the requisite permission from Pradhikaran.
The residents of Nigdi-Pradhikaran area laid strong protest against these towers. Later, PCNTDA informed the MSEDCL about the issue. Accordingly, MSEDCL cut-off the electricity at sector 28 to shut down this tower but later the move slowed down.
