The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday stayed the Bombay high court (HC) order regarding demolition of illegal constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad till the state government decides on the issue, giving temporary relief to 66,324 illegal constructions.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had declared resumption of its demolition drive following the HC order on October 4.
Pimpri Camp resident Parvati Aswani had filed an appeal before the SC against the HC order. She appealed to the SC that the proposal of the illegal constructions was pending with the state government and after the state government decision, the court could take action. Aswani told reporters, “The Supreme Court has stayed action on illegal constructions in the city until the government decides the fate of these constructions. The SC also asked the state government to file an affidavit on the issue.”
She owns one of the unauthorised constructions and hence approached the SC challenging the HC verdict. Advocate Vinay Navare appeared in the court on her behalf.
PCMC commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi told reporters that PCMC has not yet received the official copy of the SC order and once it was received, action would follow accordingly. But action on illegal constructions on flood lines and development plan reservations will continue.
Recently, the chief minister and deputy chief minister declared that the proposal of regularising illegal constructions will be tabled for approval at the Cabinet meeting .
