The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) proposed to set up its first eye hospital and urban health centre in Pimpri and a 30-bedded burn unit in Thergaon, soon.
The eye hospital will be set up on the land which was earlier reserved for cancer screening centre at Ajmera Colony. PCMC has also planned to set up a five-bedded day care centre at the urban health care centre.
PCMC chief medical officer Dr Anil Roy told reporters that municipal commissioner has approved the blueprint of the proposed eye hospital, health care centre and burn unit.
He said, “ Regular eye check ups the eye surgeries will be performed at the hospital at concessional rates.”
The civic body is yet to propose an eye bank in the hospital, though a hostel building has been proposed for PG students. PCMC is starting PG courses at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, Pimpri.
Civic official said that PCMC has also proposed a new 200-bedded hospital at Thergaon. Of these 30 beds will be reserved for burn unit, equipped with advanced facilities.
Administrative sources said that as there are no hospital in twin-town with burn unit facility, the patients are sent to Sasoon hospital, Pune or any other private hospital for further treatment. It was a long standing demand of the public representatives and citizens to set up a burn unit at Pimpri-Chinchwad.
