District information officers said that 3,904 centres have been created to administer the dose. Besides, 2,834 teams have been formed to go from door to door to administer the dose, said district medical officer SB Konkane.

Polio drops will also be administered to children at construction sites, transit camps like bus stands, railway stations and airports, religious and market areas, said the officer.

“Not a single case of polio was reported in 2011. Though it proves that India has become polio free, we will have to be careful for the next three years, so that no new cases crop up,” said the officers.
