Eve-teasing proved costly for a labourer working at a building under construction in Balewadi, when a group of men fired two rounds at him, killing him on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Kunjbihari Shivkumar Yadhav (21). Chatuhshrungi police station inspector (crime) SA Nikam has lodged a complaint against watchman Sonusingh Ramsevak Kashyap, Sushilkumar, Premkumar and Makansingh. Kashyap has been arrested. They have been slapped with charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and act done by them with common intention, and Arms Act.

Chatuhshrungi police station incharge and inspector Ajay Kadam said, “The suspects are watchmen working at the site opposite 7 Avenue in Balewadi. On Sunday at around 8.30 pm, they had a heated argument with Kunjbihari after a woman labourer accused him of eve-teasing. Angered, the group of men, two of whom were security guards deployed at the site, fired two rounds at Kunjbihari. One of the bullets hit Kunjbihari’s chest. Other labourers shifted him to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.”

“The two security guards are employees of a Nigdi-based security agency which is run by a former army officer. They have been working at the site for six months,” Kadam said.

On Tuesday, Kashyap was produced before judicial magistrate (first class) PK Deshpande and was remanded in police custody till Monday.
