PMC officials say 300 machines and 3 agencies are needed for the job.

Due to lack of machines and the agencies to do the job, the municipality's work of issuing Unique Identification (UID) cards is lagging behind schedule.

According to Pune Municipal Corporation officials, it needs 300 machines and three agencies to complete the work.

So far, the PMC has issued UID cards to 12 lakh citizens and around 21 lakh UID cards are yet to be issued.

Municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak said, “We need at least 300 machines to collect the data and three agencies to carry out the work. This time, the PMC will set up UID offices at specific spots in the city and each panel will have two such places from where the work of data collection and issuing UID cards will be carried out,’’ Pathak said.

Considering that centres were set up at the behest of corporators before the civic elections, this time, the location of UID card centres will be fixed.

“Now, we have only one agency and few machines, but to cover 21 lakh citizens, we need 300 machines. As soon as the PMC gets the machines and the three agencies, we will start the work immediately,’’ the civic chief added.
