After the demolition drive, the building permission revenue of PCMC has increased considerably, as till end of October Rs159.96 crore were collected by PCMC. Before 2011, the building permission revenue was Rs 64.89 crore. However, ever since PCMC commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi started demolition drive, it has started increasing and now it has crossed Rs 150 crore mark.
As per the municipal corporation record, this has been the highest revenue the building permission department of PCMC ever generated.
The revenue from this building permission increased drastically after 2011-12 after PCMC commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi took charge. In 2011-12, the building permission received Rs64.89 crore and in 2012-13 it was Rs149.57 crore till October end. In 2013-14, it was increased by almost Rs 10 crore.
While on one hand, PCMC is suffering a loss of almost Rs 200 crore due to low collection of the Local body Tax (LBT), on the other hand, it is focusing on revenues from other departments to make up for the crunch.
Chief audit officer of PCMC Pramod Bhosale said that PCMC was able to recover almost Rs100 crore loss of LBT from other departments such as property tax and building permission department.
This year, the civic administration was able to generate Rs176.74 crore from property tax department till October 31 in 2012-13. During the same period in 2011-12, it generated Rs137.83 crore property tax.
The civic officials added that PCMC able to successful to create about the unauthorised construction through its website, SMS service and published the list of the authorised and unauthorised constructions on its web portrayal. The another reason of increasing revenue of building permission department was that simplification process of building permission process which was introduced by PCMC from few month back.
After an HC order to raze 66,324 unauthorised constructions in twin town, PCMC all set to resume its demolition drive. PCMC demolished recently the Millennium School, unauthorised structures in Talwade Road.
