Come September 22, Puneites would get a slice of humour at its best. A five-day exhibition of India’s renowned cartoonist and humourist RK Laxman’s works would be held at Balgandharva Rang Mandir. Besides that, the illustrator would be felicitated with Bharat Bhushan award by former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
The event has been organised by Saraswati Library and Literature Trust along with A. Krishnakumar Goyal Enterprises and it is open for all citizens.
Real estate developer DS Kulkarni who addressed a press conference to announce the exhibition said that it is an once in a lifetime opportunity to witness such an event.
“The exhibition ‘Uncommon Common Man’ will be held from September 22 to 27. More than 500 rare and universally acclaimed cartoons on various issues sketched by Laxman in his 50-years career will be showcased. And few from the renowned series Malgudi days and You said it will also be exhibited,” he said.
“RK Laxman has dedicated 50-years of his work to India. He is India’s greatest cartoonist and one such cartoon can beat a 1000 words article.”stated Krishnakumar Goyal, founder of the Kohinoor real estate group.
R K Laxman has already been felicitated with Padma Vibhushan award, Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts, Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism and ‘Pune Pandit’ Award (Scholar of Pune Award) for his works.
“R K Laxman, was the first name that came to my mind when we thought of awarding Bharat Bhushan. It was a tough job to select 500 among his 18000 cartoons for the exhibition.” said Kailas Bhingare, the founder of Saraswati Library and Literature Trust and chief organiser of the event.
