Even as the entire country was glued to TV sets to watch Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar play his last Test at Mumbai’’s Wankhede stadium, fans of the legendary cricketer in Pimpri-Chinchwad area were left to stare at blank screens.
The weekly load shedding by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) -- applicable between 10 am and 6 pm on Thursdays -- deprived many citizens from watching the first day of the historic Test.
Cricket lovers who were tech savvy were busy taking the game’s updates from mobiles and laptops while others went to the homes of their relatives and friends in Pune to watch the match live.
Shardul Kale, a student residing in Nigdi said, “MSEDCL could have not implemented power cut this week to allow us to watch our idol play his last Test. I was upset when the power went out at 10 am and returned only after the end of the first day’s play.”
“Despite being an official weekly off, my cricket crazy family was unable to enjoy the match on the big TV screen at home, “ said Omkar Sawant, an auto sector employee.
