The University of Pune has come up with a scholarship in which the students who enroll for research would get scholarship up to Rs22,000 per month. The aim is to encourage students to go in for research.

Candidates who qualify the junior research fellowship JRF-NET get scholarship from the UGC. However those who only clear NET exams have to go in for lectureship.

“To attract candidates for research-oriented work who are just NET and SET clarified, we have decided to introduce a scholarship in which they would be getting up to Rs22,000,” said V B Gaikwad, director of Board of Colleges and University Development.

He said the varsity has decided to give opportunity to those who have received more than 95 per cent in GATE exams. “The age qualification for the general category is 26 and for the reserved category is 28,” he said.

This would be a  full-time research scholarship and research guide would be given to candidates. The only condition is that the candidates, while doing the research, need to present at least two research papers in international journals.

He said several candidates after clearing NET, SET and GATE go in for research, but engage themselves as lecturers. “This will give them financial stability and now they can concentrate on the research,” he said.
