No respite to pedestrians despite the new Canal Road

Pune: In order to ease the traffic situation on Karve road, the Pune Municipal Corporation had constructed canal road but the road is not serving the very purpose. At present thousands of commuters using the Canal Road, which connects Sinhgad Road and Kothrud area to Karve Road, are facing hardships due to the unused water pipes encroaching part of the road.

The commuters claimed that these pipes are lying there for many months but the PMC is not eve bothered to clear the road for easy flow of traffic.
Sandip Khardekar, local BJP leader said, “These pipes are lying on the road for last three months but no authority has bothered take the notice of it. Apart from that, there are barricades kept at the Karishma Chowk which restricts entry for commuters to use the canal road.”
“Most of the time there are some or the other work going on in the footpath near Mrityunjayeshwar temple. A barricade has been put up on a blind turn, because of this a lot of commuters face problems,” said Saket Shendrikar, a resident of Kothrud, who travels everyday from this lane. He said that apart from this, the other road which can be used for travelling from Kothrud to Karve Road is the main Karve
Road from Paud Road to Karve statue but he avoids that route as it is too long.
Another commuter from Karve Road, Gaurang Aras expressed his discomfort to travel from the same road. “I take the SNDT road on Law College route everyday to reach my college in FC Road, it should barely take any time but nowadays it is taking 20 minutes for me to go there,” said the BMCC student.
However, when dna spoke to Kothrud traffic division head inspector Jadhav, he said “We have not received any such complaints so far regarding this. The traffic flow is smooth without any problem.”
