The Pimpri Chinchwad civic body will be hiking the water tax from next year, reports a leading national English daily.
Municipal Commissioner Rajeev Jadhav said that the civic body will be proposing the tax hike in the draft budget for 2016-17. "The civic administration has not increased water tax for several years. So there is a need to revise it. But I cannot elaborate on the minute details of the draft budget before it is presented to the civic committees and general body," said Jadhav.
The civic administration had proposed to raise the water taz last year, but the general body did not approve of it.
Jadhav said that the draft annual budget for the next financial year was being prepared. He added that zonal-level meetings to know views about all corporators from six zones each will be held.
He also said that the civic body will focus on small budget projects helping a large number of people than big budget projects helping only a few.
He also said that annual revenue from local body tax increased from Rs 889 crore to Rs 1,035 since he joined two years ago and hoped to collect Rs 1150 crore by this fiscal end.
