Pune: Youth Congress members in Pimpri Chinchwad did what Shiv Sena had done in Hadapsar two years back. In March 2012, Shiv Sena MLA Mahadev Babar had broken the divider meant for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), and now on Sunday it was the turn of Youth Congress members, who broke the dividers of BRTS lane in Pimpri Chinchwad area.
Some of the members gathered at the newly constructed BRTS lane near Chinchwad railway station area, and they broke the dividers at around 11 am, and they forcefully opened the lane for traffic.
After the incident, general secretary of Youth Congress Maval unit, Narendra Bansode said, "There has been a delay in making the BRTS route operational. There is still some construction going on at the route and therefore we had written a letter to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner about opening the route for other vehicles, so that the traffic congestion in the area can be avoided, and there wouldn't be any accidents. Even after our demands the municipal corporation did not bother to pay attention to the problems of the commuters, and therefore we had to open the route for common use," Bansode said.
Earlier in March 2012, similar agitation was carried out on the Hadapsar BRTS route, where Shiv Sena MLA Mahadev Babar and his supporters had demolished the 500 meter long divider meant for BRTS lane. He had used JCB for demolishing the dividers where he had claimed that the accidents taking place on the main road were due to the BRTS lane. After the incident, Babar had to face arrest.
