Bail them out, please

Cricketers are certainly not getting any younger. They plead for a break from their punishing schedules, fans empathise.

It's an honour to represent your country. I’d be willing to sweat 365 days a year for India. If you can't stand the heat, stay out. — Sunil Gavaskar on a TV show

It differs from player to player. Some play too much cricket and feel the effects. Players must recharge after a match or a series.— Sachin Tendulkar

Burnout obvious: Cricketers are certainly not getting any younger. There is a bunch of 30-somethings doing their stuff on the field. How long can they go on performing consistently?

On top of it, these guys are training for longer hours and playing even more matches.

May be at a physiological level, it is not possible to endure so many matches. At the rate they are playing, anyone can burnout. There are people who still watch every match, then there are those who are moving to other, previously ignored sports like soccer.- Shivani Pandya. Napean Sea Road.

Old chaps burn out faster: There is a lot of cricket happening. But, there are many new faces and this at least does not make the game monotonous.

Many are turning to sports that were previously ignored like football and F1. If I have to make a choice between the Ranji Trophy and the NFL, I'll choose the latter. But burnout is a valid reason for someone like Sachin.

He has been playing since so long, burnout is bound to happen. But looking at the all those match-fixing controversies, one is definitely loosing interest. -Devesh Kala. Babulnath.

Why not rotate players?: If the cricketers are really stressed out, why not rotate the players? This way all of them will get adequate rest.

And even their sabbaticals earn them good money. They can keep themselves busy with all those lucrative endorsements. Contrary to what people say, I am still up for some more cricket. At least it is better than watching all those tear-jerking and literally never dying soap operas. -Jay Varia. Lokhandwala.

We should complain: I'm not an avid cricket fan but do watch the matches sometimes. I feel there are matches happening all the time but it's not justified when players claim that they are feeling burnt out due to excess of cricket. I feel some of them rest too much. Actually, people should complain of burnout.

Many a times I don't know there is a match and only when I switch on the TV I realise. There is too much of cricket being played around the world and not just India. - Hetal Varia. Lokhandwala.
