Asian Games 2018, Day 6 Highlights: India strike gold in rowing and tennis, score another big win in hockey

Hello and welcome to live coverage of Day 6 of the ongoing Asian Games at Jakarta, Indonesia.

India had their best day at the ongoing 2018 Asian Games on Friday as they added seven medals to their tally.

India won two gold, one silver and four bronze medals on the day.

While three of these medals came in rowing, two came fron tennis with one gold from each game. The only silver came in kabaddi while Heena Sidhu earned the ninth medal in shooting at the 18th Asian Games. 

MEDAL ALERT

19th medal: India's Rowing athlete Dushyant wins BRONZE in Men's Lightweight Single Sculls event with a timing of 7:18:76! 

20th medal:  A 2nd rowing medal for India, Rohit Kumar & Bhagwan Singh win Bronze Medal in Men's Lightweight Double Sculls team event.

21st medal: Indian team of Sawaran Singh, Dattu, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet bag GOLD in the men’s Quadruple Sculls event.

22nd medal: Tennis duo Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan clinch gold in men's doubles event, India's sixth gold at the 2018 Asian Games. 

23rd medal: Shooter Heena Sidhu bags bronze in Women's 10m air pistol final.

24th medal: It was a heartbreak for India in kabaddi again, women lose to Iran in the final, settle for silver. 

25th medal: In Tennis, Prajnesh Gunneswaran loses in men's singles semifinal to settle for bronze medal.

    India continue their dominance with another big win in their third group stage match in men's hockey. India have now scored 51 goals at the 2018 Asian games so far. They sit atop the table in pool A.

    Joshna Chinappa defeats Hong Kong’s Chan Ho Ling 3-1 in women's singles. India are now assured of at least 3 medals in Squash.

    India's HS Prannoy loses to Thailand's Wangcharoen Kantaphon 12-21, 21-15, 15-21 in round of 32.

  • Boxing

    Manoj Kumar beats Wangdi Sangay of Bhutan in Men’s Welter weight round of 32.

  • Tennis

    India finish their 2018 Asian Games campaign in tennis with a gold and two bronze medals. It is a good show considering the confusion before the start of the games with Leander Paes pulling out at the last minute. 

    Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan proved their worth while Ankita Raina and Prajnesh met expectations. Ramkumar Ramanathan’s no-medal show was the biggest disappointment.

    India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran is taking on Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin in Men's Singles semifinal right now. 

  • Gymnastics 

    Dipa Karmakar finishes fifth in the Balance Beam final with a score of 12.500. The gold goes to Chen Yile of China with a 14.600.

    TWO MEDALS ASSURED

    Dipika Pallikal Karthik registers a 3-0 win over Misaki Kobayashi of Japan and reaches the semis. She is now assured of at least a bronze medal. 

    Sourav Ghoshal beats Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu to enter the semifinals in men's category.

    World No. 28, Wong Wong Ki thrashes Kidambi Srikanth 23-21 and 19-21. India have never won a singles badminton gold at the Asian Games and with this game, one of the major prospects of the same bows out.
