Raza
It’s not often that a batsman, especially someone batting in the middle order, gets a chance to score a century in a Twenty20 game. But then I almost grabbed the opportunity before falling short against Mumbai Champs.
After Imran Farhat had given us a solid start, I finally got my chance to get going against one of the best bowling attack in the tournament. I was out on a duck in the first two games and wanted to score big in order to get over the disappointment.
I played an almost flawless innings till the end overs when the bowlers began targeting the block-hole. The combination of some good bowling and wrong shot selections on my part meant that I remained not out on 98; two short of what would have been the first century in this edition of the Indian Cricket League.
But we have two more games to go and I am confident that if I get a chance this time, I won’t miss out. The confidence comes from the numerous Twenty20 matches I have played back home in Karachi and I feel like I am just continuing from there.
All the team members have been enjoying themselves in the tournament and the comprehensive wins in the five matches we have played so far have been icing on the cake. And what’s more, every time a new player has taken the mantle to lead the team towards victory and that augurs well for us as we prepare for the knock out stage.
I am not directly involved in the selection process but the general feeling in the team is that we have to maintain the winning momentum and clinch the tournament with an all win record. That means we will stick to the same combination that has worked so well for us as keeping the winning momentum in such a quick-fire format is very important.
