IPL 8: Kings XI Punjab v/s Sunrisers Hyderabad: Boult, Bhuvneshwar lead SRH to victory

Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the match by 20 runs. One would have thought their total of 150/6 was not enough, but then Trent Boult showed why he is the one of the best pace bowlers today. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was great at the end and the rest of the bowling ensured KXIP never got much momentum going.

Over 20

Last ball is also a yorker, and is hit to Warner at wide long on by Johnson. KXIP finish tamely on 130/9 off 20 overs. SRH win by 20 runs.

Last bastman Sandeep Sharma gets a rather inconsequential single. 23 required off 2 balls.

OUT! Yorker, Anureet Singh tries to go over the top on the off side, never gets enough behind it. The ball scoops to long on where the fielder takes a good running catch.

Fast and very full ball on leg, Johnson gives room but the timing is off and he can just get one.

Yorker to Mitchell Johnson who fails to dig it away. Great bowling by SRH in the final overs. 25 needed off 5.

Over 19

Yorker outside off, Anureet Singh slogs and misses. Great over. KXIP 126/8 after 19 overs.

OUT! Rishi Dhawan is out LBW courtesy some sharp yorker-length bowling from Kumar.

Down the track and Rishi Dhawan converts the yorker into a low full toss, but ends up hitting straight to cover for one.

Good ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar fires in a slow yorker just outside off that the batsman can't get away. KXIP are sinking.

Over 18

OUT. That was supposed to be out. Fast ball from Boult and Saha mistimed the pull. Short square leg caught a simple catch. But the umpires confer for OVERSTEPPING. Replays show it's touch and go. The stump angle shows the last bit of Boult's heel was behind the line. OUT. KXIP 123/7 after 18 and back in trouble.

FOUR. This is the bane of modern-day cricket. Those villainous bats. Saha goes to his right, falls over while playing the Dilscoop, and though he mishits, still gets it over the keeper for four.

Slower ball goes to deep midwicket for one.

Great yorker outside off, batsman hits his bat on the ground as he tries to play it.

Great fielding made to look easy. Thrashed into the off side, Warner runs in from a straightish long off, slides and picks it up really quickly.

OUT! BOWLED. Trent Boult comes back for his last over, and the first ball is a fast, dipping yorker on middle and leg. Axar gives room, but he is too late to bring the bat down as the ball uproots the leg stump.

Over 17

Single off the last two balls each, KXIP 116/5 after 17.

Another low full toss, Saha goes on side this time, on the bounce to deep midwicket for two.

FOUR. Low full toss is slogged over extra cover for four by Saha.

Full ball on middle, slapped to deep midwicket for one.

Yorker gets played out to square leg for two. Suddenly the Punjab batsmen know how to bat in a Twenty20 game.

Over 16

SIX! Right in the slot, length ball just outside off and Saha swings into the crowd beyond deep square leg. KXIP 105/5 after 16 overs.

Searing pace delivery outside off stump, Saha gives a lot of room and nearly falls over playing it.

Axar Patel gives room and slogs the ball through covers for one.

Saha swings across the line again, doesn't connect, he was down on his knees. The ball thudded into his hips for a muffled appeal.

DROPPED. Slower ball, Saha tried to hit it into next week via a terrible slog. He gets a top edge that flies to third man. Short third man Boult goes running back. The catch was slightly tricky and he spills it right in the end.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack.

Over 14

Just 6 off the over, KXIP 79/5. Strategic timeout.

Yorked, and Saha gets a single to deep midwicket.

Praveen Kumar comes back after being hammered for 15 in his first over. There could be no better time to bring him back.

Over 13

Saha goes for the big hit but can't get elevation or distance. Lands in front of long on for one. KXIP 73/5 13 overs.

Axar Patel is the new batsman. Over 10 RPO needed.

OUT! David Miller is gone and now Kings XI are in huge trouble. He came down the track, tried to loft the ball down the ground, but got a top edge which was taken safely by Boult who had positioned himself well straight down the ground. KXIP 72/5.

Saha tries a reverse sweep, only gets an edge, and has to run a very quick single.

Over 12

Inside edge gets a single, KXIP 71/4 off 12 overs.

Dot ball for Saha, good over for SRH so far.

Very dull match on now as KXIP merely try to knock the singles.

Over 11

KXIP 66/4 after 11 overs.

Miller shimmies down the pitch and tries to loft Karn. The ball goes one bounce to long on.

Karn Sharma is cut for a single to deep point.

Over 9

KXIP 56/4 after 9 overs.

Wriddhiman Saha is the new batsman.

OUT! Run out, Murali Vijay is gone. He was looking for a second run after Miller hit the ball to square leg. But Miller had no interest in it and it ended in a silly run out. And it's the strategic timeout. KXIP 53/4.

FOUR. Miller sweeps Karn well, finds the gap perfectly between deep midwicket and deep square leg.

Over 8

6 off the over and a wicket. KXIP 48/3 after 8.

David Miller is the new batsman.

OUT! George Bailey is out trying to clear mid off. It was a good length ball on middle and off, a good shot was needed, but perhaps it hurried onto Bailey. The shot selection was questionable. Punjab lose a third.

Second ball is short and pulled to deep square leg for a couple.

Kumar has been taken off and Henriques introduced. Can he make up his poor batting performance, with the ball?

Over 7

Just six off the over, though they run a quick double off the last ball. KXIP 42/2 after 7 overs.

Down the track, yorks himself and the ball goes to mid on for one. Misfield by the bowler.

Good stop at gully, that was a quick flipper which Bailey did well to cut.

Spin has been introduced in the form of Karn Sharma.

Over 6

Full toss on leg stump, flicked away to deep midwicket for four. KXIP 36/2 after 6.

FOUR. Short this time, easy pace and Bailey pulls viciously for four. Big over.

FOUR. Keeper up to the stumps, Kumar with a short run up, and the result is a well-timed boundary through the covers. Praveen is undoing the good work of Boult and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Wide again. Bailey confused Praveen by coming down the track. The bowler fired it in short but too wide of leg stump.

Down the leg side and called a wide.

FOUR. Praveen Kumar has been introduced, and he gets pulled for a four first ball.

Over 5

Excellent over from Boult but no wicket. KXIP 21/2 after 5.

Quick single to mid off, the direct hit comes in and the batsman may be in trouble - but he's well home. Big cheer from the crowd for the 3rd umpire's decision.

Trent Boult continues for a third over.

Over 4

Good over, KXIP 17/2 after 4 overs.

George Bailey (surprise!) comes in to bat.

OUT! Soft dismissal albeit off a good delivery. Length on off stump from Kumar, swings back ever so slightly. Marsh plays too late, gets an inside egde that takes out his off stump for a walk. KXIP 13/2.

Vijay plays a soft drive off the last ball. KXIP 13/1.

Marsh drives, ball swings away late, it takes the edge and flies to point for no run. Good bowling.

Shaun Marsh is the new batsman. He defends the first ball down the ground.

OUT! Trent Boult has won the battle against Manan Vohra. Full ball outside off and very pacy. Vohra is still early on the drive and he gets a thick inside edge which blasts into his off stump.

Over 2

KXIP 9/0 after 2 overs.

Short and wide outside off, Vohra misses with the cut but it's called wide.

FOUR. Vohra puts one foot down the pitch and drives for four through off.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the bowler.

Over 1

KXIP 4/0 after 1 over.

Inside edge for one. Vohra is struggling against Boult.

Huge inswing from Boult, Manan Vohra plays back and is hit on the pads. The line was perfect, the length was fine. Only the height may have been an issue.

Driven through the covers, Vijay gets two.

Vijay plays the first ball to short midwicket for no run.

The Punjab batsmen have come out to bat. No Sehwag today.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have reached a moderate score of 150/6. Apart from David Warner, no batsman really got going. The innings lacked momentum almost right until the end. Reddy's two sixes made a small difference in the end, but Punjab will back themselves to chase this target.

Over 20

Slogged down the ground for one, and SRH conclude on 150/6 after 20 overs.

SIX! A taller hit. This time it was the slower ball. Reddy picked it, got under it and sent it over long on for another big six.

SIX! Full and fast, and Ashish Reddy gets under it to slog it very well over long on for six.

OUT! Moises Henriques' struggle is over. He has been yorked and his bails sent flying. He was trying a smart scoop over the keeper. He made 30 off 32 balls.

Great first ball from Sandeep Sharma, slow yorker. Henriques plays early and gets an inside edge onto pad for no run.

Over 19

Single to end the over, just 5 off it, 136/5.

Very good bowling, Anureet saw Reddy coming down the track after giving himself room. Anureet followed the batsman and bowled a yorker, off which Reddy could get just a single.

Another low full toss, and dug out to long on for a single.

Single down the ground, Henriques 28 off 28 balls.

Anureet Singh is back and he bowls a yorker first up, which is dug out by the batsman. No momentum at all for SRH.

Over 18

SRH 131/5 after 18 overs.

Was that DROPPED? Slower ball deceived Reddy, he was early into the shot and ended up scooping it straight down the ground, without distance. The fielder ran in and dived but couldn't reach the ball.

FOUR. The huge bats have got Hyderabad another boundary. Full and fast on off stump. Reddy checks his stroke at the last moment, but the ball flies over mid off for four. Strange.

Oh man. Ashish Reddy is the new batsman. As Johnson is about to get into his delivery stride, Reddy moves away from the stumps and calls time out. Johnson throws down the stumps in anger.

OUT! Was he giving the keeper catching practice? Slower short ball outside off and Bopara tickles it gently into the hands of the keeper. Out for a duck.

Mitchell Johnson is back. 1/31 off 3 overs so far.

Over 17

9 off the over, SRH 123/4.

Ravi Bopara comes out to the middle.

OUT! Naman Ojha goes for the big hit over long on, but holes out to David Miller in that position. The ball took the toe end of the bat. SRH 121/4.

FOUR. Half-volley and Ojha finally gets a boundary over covers for four.

Down to fine leg for a single, SRH 97/3 after 14 overs.

Pulled hard by Henriques off his hips, just a single. Both batsmen are scoring at under 6 runs per over.

On the pads, and Ojha flicks for one. They need quick runs now.

Mitchell Johnson comes back.

Over 13

Slammed over cover but Ojha can get just one. SRH 92/3 after 7 overs.

Almost a run out. Henriques plays the ball into the leg side and sets off. Ojha doesn't want it, sends him back. The fielder's performance is poor, so Henriques gets back from almost 4/5ths towards the other end.

FOUR. This is the result of using huge bats. Rishi Dhawan bowls a slower delivery and Ojha realises it late. He checks his shot, but the ball flies between cover and mid off for four, as if it was a classical cover drive.

Over 12

Single off the last ball, SRH 85/3 after 12 overs.

Driven through the off side for no run, short cover stops it.

Pulled to long leg for a single.

Naman Ojha plays a drive outside off without moving his feet, and misses.

Slashed to third man and SRH get one.

FOUR. Now Vihari drives for four. KXIP intent on bowling full outside off.

Over 5

FOUR. Now it's pitched on middle and leg and Warner flicks the ball through midwicket. The fielder's dive is of no avail as Hyderabad get another four. SRH 46/1 after 5 overs.

FOUR. Again the half-volley, and again Warner's drive through covers has perfect timing. 41 off 23. SRH 42/1.

FOUR. Great pickup, though the timing wasn't the best. Length on off stump and Warner just scoops the ball straight down the ground, through the line.

FOUR. Another terrific cover drive. Pitched up and Warner drove hard with perfect timing. Warner is on 33 off 20 balls. SRH are 34/1.

Kings XI Punjab have won the toss and chosen to bowl.

19:18 IST Monday, 27 April 2015

Welcome to the LIVE coverage of Kings XI Punjab v/s Sunrisers Hyderabad, from Mohali. The match begins at 8 pm IST.

These are two teams who are struggling in this year's IPL. Each have two wins from six games, and are grovelling in the bottom half of the table.

SRH have a perennial problem - of two great seamers in their side in the form of Trent Boult and Dale Steyn. Who will they play today? Moreover, Hyderabad's Indian recruits - the likes of KL Rahul, Naman Ojha and Hanuman Vihari - have failed to perform so far.

For Kings XI Punjab, their easy loss to Chennai Super Kings may force a rethink - will they play Glenn Maxwell again? David Miller will also have to fire, and Punjab will hope Mitchell Johnson is more consistent.
