The own goal by Croatia's Mario Mandzukic in Sunday's World Cup final against France was the first in a final and 12th of a record-breaking tournament in Russia.

Antoine Griezmann's free kick brushed the top of Mandzukic's head and sailed over his own goalkeeper to give France a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of the game at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
Mandzukic scored the extra-time winner for Croatia against England in Wednesday's semi-final to send them through to the final. 

A few minutes later, Croatia’s Ivan Ivan Perišić equalised in the 29th minute.

 

 

The World Cup struck a next gear when a hand ball gave France a penalty. VAR entered another chapter of football history when a VAR decision declared penalty in the World Cup final. Atletico Madrid’s Griezmann made it 2-1 for France.
