India v/s West Indies 1st T20 in USA: Dhoni spoils KL Rahul's party, Windies win by 1 run
It's time for some T20 action in Uncle Sam's land.
An absolutely remarkable game of cricket ended with the West Indies winning by 1 run. On a day that Virat Kohli failed to fire, KL Rahul stepped up with a remarkable unbeaten century. It was always a huge target and but India started rather well as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul made sure the asking rate never went too high. Dhoni and Rahul’s partnership looked like it had sealed the game for India but Bravo struck at the death to help West Indies win a thriller by 1 run.
Earlier a blistering start by Charles and Lewis gave West Indies a platform to post a crazy total but some good balling by India looked like they had pulled it back.
WI XI: J Charles, A Fletcher, E Lewis, M Samuels, L Simmons, K Pollard, A Russell, DJ Bravo, C Brathwaite, S Narine, S Badree
IND XI: RG Sharma, L Rahul, V Kohli, A Rahane, MS Dhoni, S Binny, R Ashwin, R Jadeja, M Shami, J Bumrah, B Kumar
Head to head:

And they dropped Dhoni. Who drops Dhoni? Now India need 6 runs off 4 balls. OMG, Dhoni was caught on the last ball and India lost by 1 run. That was remarkable.
Overs 19, Score 248/3
KL Rahul does a Dhoni as he reached a 100 with an exception six. This has been a phenomenal innings. And he does it again. India need 8 runs off the last over. GET IN.
18
So after a big over, Bravo does well but India needs 24 runs off 12 balls. Nothing too tough now.
Overs 17 Score 213/3
MS Dhoni sends it long the only way he can do it. And after a couple of dot balls he does it again. As the kids in his biopic trailer, Dhoni maar raha hai, Dhoni maar raha hai. And KL Rahul is not willing to be left behind as he sends it long as well.
India now need 33 runs to win in three overs.
Over 15 Score 182/3
KL Rahul is showing something rather special today. India’s batting line-up has a new hero no matter how it ends. Hopefully, he will stay till the end. He looks in fine form. He has reached 82 now.
Overs 13 Score: 150/3
Anyone who doubts the efficacy of the IPL should really look at KL Rahul’s improvement since the last season. One small innings for Rahul, one giant step for future of Indian batting.
But now Rohit Sharma depart which means that MS Dhoni is now on who gets off the mark quickly. Seriously, we’re having trouble telling the difference if that’s him or Sushant out there? And we just saw a terrifying sight in the pavilion – a padded up Stuart Binny.
Overs 12
KL Rahul is looking very special played indeed. Reaches his fifty with a six. Everyone thinks they’re Dhoni now!
Overs 11 Score 131/2
Rohit and Rahul have really stabilised the innings without doing anything rash. They’ve kept India within touching distance without really going ballistic or doing anything rash. Rohit crosses his fifty while KL Rahul is inching towards his. And Rohit sends it sailing on the last ball.
Overs 9 Score 104/2
KL Rahul has been impressive so far but he was lucky to be dropped.
Overs 8 Score 96/2
And now Rohit Sharma gets in on the act as he sends it over the ropes at mid-on. And he does it again. Another SIX. Sharma has now reached 42 off 19 balls.
Overs 7 Score 80/2
KL Rahul has now come to the party with a couple of boundaries and a huge six over Narine. India is doing its own way. Going for piercing boundaries rather than trying to clear the ropes.

Overs 6 Score 67/2
KL Rahul has now come to the party with a couple of boundaries and a huge six over Narine. India is doing its own way.
Overs 5 Score 51/2
It feels like the wind was taken out of India’s sail but let’s not forget that Rohit Sharma is still there.
Overs 4 Score 42/1
Kohli has arrived and raced to 10 runs with crisp fours. Kohli and Sharma look like they are warming up.
Over 2 Score 19/0
Rohit Sharma hits two consecutive boundaries to excite the faithful. Is he going slow so Dhoni can do a Dhoni in the last over?
20th Over It ends at 245/6.
Pollard hits a bizarre bouncer for a six to get the over started. But he then departs after trying to play a scoop shot. And Bumrah gets Lendl Simmons with the next ball. India needs 246 to win. It is gettable? Let’s see.
19 Overs Score 235/3
So who’s going to bowl? Surely not Binny? MSD is no masochist. But Bhuvneshwar Kumuar is running in and he’s doing pretty well. He’s not giving the batsmen any chance to get under the ball. This is much better from India. Pollard finally manages to get underneath it. 20 sixes and 13 fours in this match so far.
Overs 18 Score 225/3
Bumrah is bowling better than he did in the beginning. It was an extremely destructive opening but there seems to be some signs of life in the rubble. Brathwaite tried a scoop but that was rather bizarre. This is a brilliant over from Bumrah.
Overs 17 Score 215/3
Now it’s time for Brathwaite who made his name in that final over against England by hitting four consecutive sixes to come to the party. He starts it off with a huge one.
Honestly how many batsmen do they have? At least there are two new batsmen at the crease but their names are Polland Brathwaite.
OVERS 16 Score 205-3
Despite the score, the stadium has found its voice again and chants of DHONI DHONI take over. And Lewis. That another Sir Jadeja wicket.
Remember the name. Ravindra Jadeja strikes again to get Evin Lewis who scored a blistering century. 205/3 #IndvsWI
Overs 14 Score 189/1
Lewis has reached 90. But now Ashwin is altering the length to prevent Evan Lewis from going nuts. But he can’t do it for too long and his fourth ball goes for a huge six. Seven off the over, that wasn’t a bad one.
Over number 13
Now it’s time for Russel to light it up. It’s 181/1 after 13 overs.
Ashwin does the unthinkable and concedes just four runs in an over!
It's 168/1 after 12 overs!
Stuart Binny is bowling. Four words that never fill anyone with hope.
4.1 It goes for a huge one straight down the ground.
4.2 Lewis sends it even longer.
Wide
4.3 A low full toss is again sent out of the ground. Lewis is now on 69 off 29 balls.
4.4 Four sixes.
4.5 He sends the fifth one out of the ground. Dhoni looks angry.
4.6 AND IT’S NOT a six. Whew. Just 1 run. Yuvraj Singh’s record is safe.
So after 10 overs, West Indies are 132/1. And Lewis is a pinch hitter. These Caribbean boys are really, really greedy.
Finally, Mohammad Shami gets a modicum of revenge after bowling out Johnson Charles who scored a mind-boggling 79 off 33 balls.
Over Number 9 Score 121/0
Johnson Charles needs a bigger ground right now. This is a blitzkrieg now. I can't remember the last time bowlers were treated with so much disdain. Charles has scored 71 off 30. That was a chance to take a catch but if India need some hope they will need to go big and hard from the beginning. India hasn't got a wicket yet and they have batsman till number 9!
West Indies reached their 100 in just 7.4 overs - the fastest team 100 against India. Previous fastest was 9.2 overs (twice). #IndvsWI - Facts Courtesy @rgcricket
Now Evan Lewis comes to the party. has absolutely gone bonkers. That was a 77m six! Ravindra Jadeja has gone for consecutive sixes. This is not looking good for the East Indians.
It's 64/0 after five overs and this rate the those guys are going to go above 250.
5th Over
Charles has now scored 31 off 14 balls and there seems to be no stopping him. Shami seems to be disappearing. And someone in the audience is shouting Inqilab Zindabad. Does everyone want Azaadi? The score is now 64/0 in five overs.
4th Over
First ball, Lewis hits the first ball out of the park for a huge six. He's eating Shami for breakfast. The youngster needs to do something.
After four overs, Johnson Charles is now 29 off 12 balls. The Indian bowlers are being taken to the cleaners. It’s 46-0. A total of 13 runs from that over
Overs 4 | Runs 46 | Wickets
After three overs West Indies are -0. They've got off to a blistering start with a mix of luck and power hitting. Dhoni has to pull one of out his cap quickly. He can't let this team run away with it.
Overs 3 | Runs 32 | Wickets 0
And in the first over Mohammad Shami goes for 17. That’s a cracking start for the West Indies. 17/0. Johnson Charles in the mood today, whacking Shami for two boundaries and one huge six.
Score after 1st over: 17/0
