MADURAI: The 48th national inter state athletics championship, which will serve as the final selection trial for the Beijing Olympics, will be held here from June 15 to 18.
"The meet will be the final selection trial for the Indian team for the Olympics to be held in Beijing in August this year," W I Dawaram, President of the Tamil Nadu Athletics Association, said here on Tuesday night.
Organised under the auspices of the Athletic Federation of India, the meet will see champion athletes like Anju Bobby George, Krishna Punia, Sushmitha Singha Roy, Renjith Maheswary and Vikas Gowda in action.
Dawaram said the meet would be of international standards and a prelude to the next Commonwealth games. Latest equipments would be used to determine winners in case of photo finish. Technometer, electronic display boards, countdown timers and 24 square feet video display boards would be used for the first time in the championship, to be held at MGR Race course stadium here, he said.
The Velammal group of educational institutions will be the title sponsor for the championship.
