Seventh seed Andy Roddick survived a nasty early fall to advance to the second round of the Australian Open on Monday.
The American played well within himself and comfortably beat Thiemo De Bakker of the Netherlands 6-1 6-4 6-4 after a 45-minute rain delay forced them off court in Hisense Arena.
The pair were forced off at 2-2 in the second set because of rain falling through the open roof.
Officials closed the roof while about 20 tournament staff and ballkids dried the court with towels.
Roddick tripped over a line judge's foot during a rally in the first set and admonished the official to "move out of the way when you see a player coming" but did not appear to be suffering from an injury after the tumble.
