Manchester City has added to its collection of strikers by signing Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor on a five-year deal for a fee of about £25m.
The 25-year-old joins fellow new signings Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez at Eastlands. And with Robinho, Craig Bellamy, Valeri Bojinov, and Benjani also on their books, City has an embarrassment of riches up front.
After finalising his move to Eastlands from Arsenal, Togolese international Adebayor said Manchester City was always his first choice. The 25-year-old passed his medical tests on Saturday and joined City on a five-year contract.
"I am happy being here," Adebayor was quoted as saying in The Daily Telegraph. "I had a good discussion with the coach. I had a good discussion with the chairman of Man City. What they have told me is about the future."
The Togolese striker, who takes City’s summer spending to around £80m, passed a medical on Saturday and had already been successful in arranging a work permit.
He claimed that he left Arsenal with the blessings of manager Arsene Wenger after spending three and a half years at the North London club.
"It [leaving Arsenal] was a little bit difficult, but at the end of the day it's a game," he said. "They will have made money as well. I had a good discussion with Arsene. I have all his blessings to leave the club, so I'm very happy."
Meanwhile, striker Peter Crouch is close to joining Tottenham Hotspur in a £12 million move.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been tracking the Portsmouth and England striker and an offer was tabled in the last 24 hours, News of the World reported.
Crouch, also a target for Fulham, looked set to join Sunderland but stalled when he heard of the chance to reunite with his old boss Redknapp.
Crouch will hold talks with Redknapp this week.
