DUBAI: Detained Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif appeared before a Dubai court today but the cricketer is yet to know if he would be tried for possessing contraband drugs.
Senior Pakistan Cricket Board official Nadeem Akram, rushed by the Board to bail out the pacer, said Asif appeared before the court along with his lawyers and he was waiting to hear if there was any development.
"We are hoping to hear from them soon," Akram said.
"The chief prosecutor will cross-examine the witnesses who were instrumental in finding the banned substance from the bowler. The prosecutor may finish his findings today and send his report to the Attorney General of Dubai," he said.
The PCB official said law would take its own course in the case and he has no other way but to wait for the outcome.
"The prosecutor has to decide today if there is a strong enough case and evidence to try Asif for possession of drugs. He is now under the laws of Dubai and we are keeping our fingers crossed," he said.
Asif remains detained at the Dubai airport since Sunday when he was intercepted here on his way home for possessing contraband drugs.
