INDORE: Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Sunday refused to comment on his appearance in a chaotic exhibition match -- along with two other teammates -- in Bhandara, Maharashtra before the second one-dayer against England.
"We are talking about the match tomorrow. Ask the BCCI," he retorted when queried on the matter initially.
When another question was fired, he said "I have said already to talk only about Monday's second one-day international. Baad mein aapko masala mil jayega (You will get enough spicy details afterwards)", he added.
Dhoni and pacers Zaheer Khan and R P Singh yesterday managed to come out unscathed from a near stampede situation after the exhibition match where they had gone to inaugurate a cricket academy started in the name of the father of Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel.
Hundreds of local fans, who gathered to have a glimpse of their heroes, rushed on to the ground posing a serious security hazard for the players and raising questions whether adequate security was in place.
The players left for Bhandara from Rajkot where they had thumped England by 158 runs in the first ODI on November 14.
The BCCI had, however, played down the incident saying the players had taken prior permission, while insisting that adequate security measures were in place for them.
"There is nothing wrong in attending such a programme. It was for a charitable cause. They had taken prior permission and enough security measures were in place," BCCI Finance Committee chairman Rajiv Shukla said.
"The academy was for rural children and it should not be blown out of proportion since there was no practice session today. They had taken the necessary permission from the BCCI to attend the function," he added.
However, there were voices of criticism with former Indian opener Chetan Chauhan, who was the team's cricket manager on its last tour of Australia, questioning the logic behind sending the players for the function.
"How they were allowed to go without ascertaining the security arrangements? How they were allowed to go when a series is on?" he wondered.
