At 16, Saurabh Chaudhary shoots down own record

India's 16-year-old shooting sensation Saurabh Chaudhary on Thursday smashed his own junior world record. He scored 245.5 in the final to win gold in Junior Men's 10m Air Pistol at the 52nd ISSF World Championship in Changwon, Korea.

Chaudhary's earlier record, set at the junior WC in Suhl in June, was of 243.7, which was better than the senior men's record by 0.1 point. And his latest effort has left Ukraine's Oleh Omelchuck's record of 243.6 behind by as much as 1.9 points.

On Thursday, his nearest competition once again was host South Korea's Lim Hojin, who settled for a silver with an effort of 243.1. The margin of 2.4 clearly shows how consistent Saurabh was throughout the day, tallying 581 to qualify for the final in third spot and then shooting that world class score of 245.5 in the final.

Indian juniors also picked up two more medals on Thursday. Arjun Singh Cheema, who was crowned the world junior 50m pistol champion a few days back, shot a score of 218 to settle for bronze. While, Saurabh and Arjun combined with Anmol Jain to clinch the team silver in the event with an effort of 1730.

They fell short by two points to that new Junior Team World Record created by Korean trio.

India ended day five with an overall total of 14 medals which includes four gold, six silver and four bronze. They lie third in the medals tally behind Korea and Russia.
