Atletico Madrid have agreed to sign Uruguay central defender Diego Godin from La Liga rivals Villarreal on a five-year contract subject to a medical, the clubs said on Wednesday.
Godin, 24, was part of the Uruguay squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals in South Africa last month and will join international team mate Diego Forlan in the Spanish capital.
Neither club revealed financial details of the deal.
