There have been several unpredictable results in the World Cup so far. Ireland chased 327 to beat England by three wickets, Bangladesh destroyed England’s pride in a close encounter on Friday and Canada, relatively new at the world stage, beat Kenya.
But you can’t hope for an upset when four-time World Cup winners Australia take on a winless Kenyan side at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. The match promises to be lopsided, nothing else.
The Australians, who haven’t lost a WC match since 1999, would look to continue their winning streak. More importantly, victory will help them book a place in the quarters.
Australians have recorded dominant wins over Zimbabwe and New Zealand and the only team to have posed some kind of threat to Ricky Ponting & Co was Sri Lanka.
That match, played in Colombo, was rained out, though. However, Ponting is in no mood to sit back and relax as that’s what they have been doing for the past two weeks.
“We are pretty sick of watching cricket and we want to play some cricket. We haven’t played a great deal of cricket in the tournament so it’s all about us getting it right till the business end of the tournament,” Ponting said on Saturday.
The only thing that could be bothering Ponting is the presence of 35-year-old Mike Hussey. The senior Hussey’s return from injury means one among Steven Smith and David Hussey will have to sit out. ‘Iron Mike’, who arrived in India on Tuesday, was in the dark about his selection prospects, but skipper Ponting says only injury will stop the 35-year-old from playing.
For Kenya, batting out 50 overs would be their top priority. They would bank on the experienced duo of Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo.
