The National Basketball Association (NBA), Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and YMCA are planning to start a premier league to train and spot talent. “We want to carry forward the dream of Harish Sharma, who had made a number of sacrifices to promote basketball in India,” said NBA official Akash Jain.
The three organisations are planning to construct an indoor basketball court. “It is a dream to have an indoor court in Mumbai. It will take time but we will try our best to make it happen.” said YMCA head Jacob Abraham.
Roopam Sharma, CEO of BFI, said that a league is being planned. “Media can play a very important role in making basketball a popular sport in the country,” she said.
