MUMBAI: Two bikers -- Karanbir Singh and Pankaj Trivedi -- have created a new record by travelling a 3874 km stretch from Kanyakumari to the inhospitably cold Khardungla in Leh in just over five days.

Karanbir and Trivedi, who took part in the Gulf Overdrive Xtreme Challenge, are now bidding to enter the Limca Book of Records for having bettered the previous mark by almost two days "We had to travel through unmotorable roads (while traversing across nine Indian states and 22 cities), during the ride from Kanyakumari to Agra. The temperatures soared to around 45 degrees celcius near Nagpur and then dipped to minus 10 degrees celcius at Leh," Karanbir told reporters here.

"We faced a few problems, which is expected. Pankaj even broke his arm in Leh and he was offered help by the Indian armymen in Leh who knew what we were up to," he said after breaking the previous mark of seven days, one hour and 45 minutes up to Leh.

The duo started their feat on May 27 evening and completed the gruelling journey on June 2. Incidentally, the passage to Khardungla in the Himalayas is the world's highest motorable road.

"It's once in a lifetime experience for us. It was fantastic, but we are geared up for similar feats in the future," Karanbir said.
