Chess tournament: Surya Shekhar Ganguly emerges champion

Former National champion and Grand Master Surya Shekhar Ganguly (ELO 2625) of IOC, beat IM Shyam Sundar in the final round to tally 7.5 points.

Former National champion and Grand Master Surya Shekhar Ganguly (ELO 2625) of IOC, beat IM Shyam Sundar in the final round to tally 7.5 points and emerge the individual champion of the XXIII PSPB inter-unit chess tournament, being hosted by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) here on Wednesday. Top seed and GM K Sasikiran (ELO 2589) of ONGC stood second with 6.5 points and  IM Venkatesh MR of BPCL (ELO 2499), ended third with six points.

Ganguly had accounted for Sasikiran in the sixth round.  Sasikiran won his final round game against Venkatesh. GM Abhijit Kunte of IOC, ended both the rounds in a draw, finishing with 5.5 points.
