Top seed Chetan Anand bowed out of the India Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championships losing to Indonesian Yunus Alamsyah 21-16 12-21 13-21 in the semifinals at the SDAT Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Unseeded Indian RMV Gurusaidutt defeated third seeded compatriot P Kashyap 21-6 17-21 21-15 in the other semifinal. Guru was in his best elements as Kashyap struggled to find his feat on the day of big upsets.

In the women’s final, second seeded Mew Choo Wong of Malaysia will clash with top seeded Saina Nehwal of India. Both recorded straight-set wins against their respective opponents in the semifinals. Saina beat Aprilia Yuswandari 21-17 21-11 while Mew got the better of Linda Weni Fanetri Linda 22-20 21-17.

“She plays the drops well and I have to be guarded against her though I scored an easy win in the ABC. I am pretty pleased with the way my game has panned out so far,” Saina told reporters after the match.

Gurusaidutt, however, attributed his fine showing to the sustained training for the past six months. “The last six months of training in camps has helped to improve my game and I Mew didn’t expect that I would be reaching the final of a big event so soon. I will really have to play patiently against Yunus as he is a great rally player. I lost to him in straight sets in the Thailand Open in 2008,” Gurusaidutt said.
