Mumbai’s Munjal Savla grabbed eyeballs when he drove on the streets of Colombo to finish first in the Volkswagen Race Polo at the Colombo Night Races on Saturday night.

With a combination of controlled driving and high speed, the Volkswagen Polo R Cup driver from India met expectations. He was the pole sitter before the race began. He reached the finish line ahead of Chennai’s A Sandeep Kumar, who is Polo R Cup India’s pro-category champion. JK Tyre National Karting champion Mumbai’s Ameya Bafna finished third.

Meanwhile, an early daybreak and time constraints resulted in a few races being cancelled including Race 2 of Volkswagen Polo.

Earlier, Savla dominated the qualifying session, which was restricted to three timed laps owing to time restrictions. It forced the drivers to adapt quickly and put in the hot laps right from the start, with no room for error. Munjal set the pace and set the fastest lap time of 2:05.71 minutes. Ameya was a second slower and joined Munjal on the front row at the second position. Sandeep and Angad Singh Matharoo finished third and fourth, respectively.
