31-year-old cricketer Irfan Pathan has married 21-year-old Safa Baig from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Baroda all-rounder, who once played for Team India, married Safa Baig at Haram Shareef in the holy city of Mecca on Thursday. Safa and Irfan had been seeing each other for two years prior, said the report in a news daily.
"Irfan and Safa met in Dubai about two years ago and later came close. Safa even visited Vadodara to meet Irfan's family. The duo got engaged about three months ago following which the wedding date was fixed," said a source to the daily.
Safa has been a model by profession and now works for a PR firm in Jeddah. She is also well known for being a nail artist. She is an alumna of International Indian School in Jeddah.
It was a simple wedding ceremony in Mecca and the Pathan family had kept it a low-key affair. Only family members and close relatives were invited. After the 'nikaah' the Pathan family had organized a dinner programme at a plush hotel at Al-Hindaweeyah.
Irfan and his family may return to Mumbai on Friday and Safa will come later. The cricketer is rumoured to be throwing a grand reception in March in Mumbai.
