Day after refusing to sub for Man City, Carlos Tevez turned away from golf club

A day after refusing to play in Manchester City’s European match against Bayern Munich, Argentine footballer Carlos Tevez and his wife were not allowed to play at the Tytherington golf club as they had not booked a tee time.

More ignominy followed as Tevez was suspended for two weeks by Manchester City, after a telephone conference involving senior staff, including chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak.

“Manchester City can confirm that striker Carlos Tevez has been suspended until further notice for a maximum period of two weeks,” the Daily Times quoted the club as saying in a short statement.

“The player's suspension is pending a full review into his alleged conduct during Tuesday evening's 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. The player will not be considered for selection or take part in training whilst the review is under way,” the statement added.

Comedian Pete Sinclair tweeted: 'What's the difference between Carlos Tevez and a tramp? £150k a week. What's the similarity? They both refuse to get off the bench.'

Media mogul Piers Morgan added: 'I think Carlos Tevez needs an urgent chat with @themichaelowen to learn how to stay happy on the bench.'

Tevez, 27, seemed unrepentant after the match, which City lost 2-0, but today denied that he had simply not bothered to save Manchester City from defeat.

He said it had been a 'misunderstanding' - but his irate manager Roberto Mancini last night said that the forward was 'finished' at the club.
