Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz called the shots in the Mauritanian Super Cup final when he ordered a penalty shoot-out in the 63rd minute of the game. Abdel Aziz was said to have become increasingly frustrated with the tempo of the game and, with FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar locked at 1-1, called for an early result, according to a report in Italy's Gazetto World.

The unusual change in proceedings left thousands of fans awaiting explanation, despite the league denying claims of the president's involvement. A statement issued by the federation present, Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane denied the allegations: "The decision was made due to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams", it read.

Tevragh-Zeina won the shoot-out and went on to lift the trophy eventually.
