Mithali Raj, a former captain of India’s women national cricket team, has shared her insights regarding the greatest ODI spinner.
In a clip released on the Star sports Twitter page, Mithali Raj alongside with other experts choose players who according to them are the greatest ODI spinners of all time. According to the former Indian captain, the spinner who outplays everyone as the best ODI spinner is Muttiah Muralitharan.
Muralitharan is a former Sri Lanka right arm off break spinner who has taken 534 wickets in his ODI career. Besides this, he also happens to hold the record having most ODI wickets in a career.
While Mithali chooses the legendary Muralitharan, other experts including Sanjay Manjrekar and Piyush Chawla pick Shane Warne to be the greatest ODI spinner of all time. Shane Warne who was a legendary right arm leg spin bowler has taken 293 wickets in his ODI career. He also holds the 15th spot in the list of most wickets in ODIs.
Besides being the former Indian captain, Mithali holds the record of scoring the most runs in ODI (7805 runs). Her career comprises 232 ODI matches including 7 centuries and 64 half centuries. Her highest score counts 125 runs (not out).
In 2017, she also led India to the finals of ICC Women’s World Cup against England who won by 9 runs.
