PANAJI: Upset over the All India Football Federation's Appeal Committee decision not to replay their match against Air-India, Fransa Pax chairman Micky Pacheco on Thursday disbanded his team.
"From today I have no links with the AIFF as I have disbanded the team from the National Football League and also from all age-groups, all of whom have done well this season," Pacheco told a press conference at his chamber at the Secretariat here, said.
"The AIFF's committee members are a bunch of big jokers, who lack professionalism in running the administration. First they told us we can resume our match against Air-India and now they have decided otherwise, giving Air-India three points and three goals," Pacheco, who is also a minister in the Pratapsingh Rane-led Congress government said.
"I had discussions with the team this morning and I told them my decision to disband the team... which all agreed. I will pay all their dues till yesterday... they are free to join any team," he said.
When asked whether his decision of disbanding the team is a blow to his players' career, he said "if the present AIFF committee continues, football in India will never improve especially with Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi at its helm".
Fransa Pax had threatened to pull out from the 10th NFL after a referee awarded two controversial penalties in favour of Mahindra United in the January 30 match, which the Goan team lost 1-2.
Fransa, which protested with the AIFF against the referee's decision in awarding the penalties wanted the match to be replayed or a point to be awarded.
The Goan team subsequently did not turn up for their next match against Air-India on February 2, to protest against AIFF's delay in deciding the matter.
