KOLKATA: Leaving behind Indian team's dismal show in the World Cup and the controversies following it, Sourav Ganguly began preparation for the coming challenges with a fitness session on Thursday.

Ganguly, who was one of the few success stories for India with two back-to-back 50s in the mega event, spent about half an hour at the Eastern Railway sports complex near his residence at Behala.

The left-hander is scheduled to play the third and fourth match in Bengal's final round national Twenty20 championship group matches at Ahmedabad.

Ganguly will take part in the April 17 game against Madhya Pradesh and the next day's fixture against Mumbai after skipping the side's first two matches.

He would also be available for the April 21 final at the Brabourne stadium, Mumbai, if Bengal make it to that stage, CAB sources said.

After India crashed out of the World Cup with losses against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the preliminary stage, the Indian cricketers faced the wrath of fans who tore their posters and tarred their portraits.

Coach Greg Chappell resigned from the post of coach, and the BCCI's working committee came out with a directive to the selectors to send a young team for next month's tour to Bangladesh under an experienced captain.

There were also reports that Ganguly and another seasoned campaigner Sachin Tendulkar would be dropped for the Bangladesh tour, though the board has described it as 'baseless'.
