The outbreak of the H1N1 virus in Pune has taken its toll on the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi as well. Except one, all events (sport and non-sport related) have been postponed indefinitely.

Confirming this to DNA, Vasant Vaidya, the director of sports and youth affairs, stated that the events which were supposed to be held in the complex in August have been rescheduled.

“There is not a single tournament organised by us during this period. The complex was booked by a few private organisations. Most of them have since postponed their events,” said Vaidya. After the National Rife Association of India winded up their month-long camp at Balewadi, other organisations like Hindustan Petroleum have postponed their inter-department sports meet which was scheduled from August 17.

However, the Asian Carrom Championship, which is starting from Tuesday, will be held as scheduled. “Though some countries have withdrawn participation, we will stick to the original schedule,” SK Sharma, secretary, All India Carrom Federation, said.
