Australia's Sydney Test hero Nathan Hauritz is determined to play in next week's third game against Pakistan at Hobart despite a thumb injury.

Hauritz took a career-best haul of 5-53 to bowl Pakistan out for 139 on day four of the Sydney Test on Wednesday to give Australia a sensational 36-run victory.

The win came despite Australia being 206 runs behind in the first innings, The Australian reports.

Hauritz took a stunning return catch to dismiss Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf for 19, turning the match in Australia's favour and injuring his thumb in the process.

"It's okay. It's still a bit sore but I've had all the medical checks and everything like that. Hopefully I'll be fit for Hobart," Hauritz said on Thursday.

Australia leads the three-Test series 2-0 and the third Test starts next Thursday.

Cricket Australia is considering announcing a Test squad later today, with speculation that the squad will be unchanged despite No.6 batsman Marcus North's struggling with form.
